April - May 2003
Skinny's Music - When New York guitarist Bruce Kulick's began his professional music career in 1975, he soon found himself up on stage performing with such notable acts as Meatloaf (With whom he toured the world on the 'Bat Out of Hell' tour in 1977-78, and playing on the 'Dead Ringer' album), Michael Bolton (Blackjack - The band he formed with Bolton and released two albums) and Billy Squier (He played guitar for Squier's first album 'Tale of the Tape'). Kulick then got the gig as a temporary replacement for Mark St. John (Who was struck down by Reiters Syndrome) in Kiss on their 1984 European Tour. From there, Kulick stayed with Kiss for twelve years, before Kiss reverted back to the original line-up in 1995 (Following MTV's 'Kiss Unplugged'). It was another three years later before Kulick hooked up with former The Scream/Mtley Cre vocalist John Corabi in the project Union. The band released two albums and a live recording before taking an extended break. Kulick found himself in 70's rock group Grand Funk Railroad in late 2000, while working on solo material simultaneously. His first solo album 'Audio Dog' was released in 2001, and was met with high praise for both his vocals and classic musicianship. Two years on, and Kulick has finally unleashed his sophomore release 'Transformer'. With another impending tour due here in Australia in a couple of weeks, I managed to catch up with Kulick and touch on subjects as Union, 'Transformer' and the upcoming tour. [Read The Interview]
Bruce Kulick, Kiss' lead guitarist for 12 years is making his way back to Australia for a nationwide tour in support of his soon to be released solo album, Transformer. In February, 2002 Bruce performed his first ever solo concerts in Melbourne and Sydney to sell out audiences. Kiss' diehard fans got a unique chance to get up close with one of their idols as Bruce and his band whipped through a 2 hour show of classic and rare Kiss songs from the era Kulick was in the band - 1984 to 1996 performing many songs Kiss to this day have never performed live. Due to the great success of the last tour Bruce is returning in May to perform 4 concerts in Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney. Tickets go on sale on April 7 from the outlets below. After each show, Bruce will conduct a signing session for all fans will get a chance to meet and greet the guitar player that helped Kiss write and sell over 15 million albums and perform hundreds of sell out shows all over the world during their "unmasked" era. Kulick has also recorded and toured with such luminaries as Meat Loaf, Michael Bolton, Billy Squire and Grand Funk Railroad and is a renown session player in Los Angeles. He is endorsed by both ESP Guitars and Marshall Amplifiers. Bruce is a true guitar hero and Kiss fan or not, fans will be blown away with his fretwork. Bruce's band on this coming tour will again be all-Australian and the same line up of Vince Contarino (Zep Boys), Paul Drennan (Stand), Stephen Crafter (Stand) and Matthew MacAuliffe (Stand) will join him onstage for 2 hours of madness. With the set revamped and featuring a couple of new tunes off Transformer and some dusted off forgotten Kiss tunes, it will be one helluva crazy crazy night!
